Operations Manager ? West Point, VA Career Opportunity The West Point Mill Operations Manager leads the mill-wide effort to improve safety, environmental compliance, product quality, reliability, and production. This position has direct management over the production areas including the Paper Machines, Shipping, Secondary Fiber, Power and Recovery, Pulp, and Woodyard to produce quality products in a safe, productive, and cost-efficient manner. How You will impact WestRock o Actively support, promote, and drive the WestRock Path to One corporate initiative to be the #1 Packaging company by 2025. o Drive safety excellence by modeling safety leadership and expecting it of both peers and leaders within the Operations Manager span of control o Ensure systematic and complete commitment to fulfilling the expectations of our Safety Excellence System o Lead in a way that inspires employees to follow all applicable OSHA regulations, WestRock safety standards and initiatives, and West Point Mill policies o Ensure environmental compliance with federal, state, and local statutes, WestRock environmental standards and West Point Mill policies o Ensure the West Point mill is a steward of the environment as it relates to the surrounding community. o Support and drive the Path to One sustainability initiative as it relates to the West Point mill. o Drive a culture that meets customer expectations, compliant with ISO9001- 2015 and the West Point Mill quality policy o Maximize/optimize mill production in all areas while maintaining alignment with demand and fiber inventory to achieve mill balance o Support Performance Excellence and Productivity activities and champion the overall improvement of the mill?s cost position o Drive a systems approach to manufacturing, including training systems, operator checklists, trouble shooting guides, SOP?s, KOP?s, and capturing key learnings o Drive and support a culture of managing the basics, attention to detail, being data driven and having a laser focus on high impact opportunities o Drive the development of the mill?s annual operating plan. Including operational forecasts and budgets to improve mill profitability o Drives systematic continuous improvement in mill operations and other mill processes such as communications, employee engagement, people development, top talent recruiting, co-op program, performance reviews and accountability. o Develop leaders through training, stretch assignments, feedback, the performance management process, etc. o Drive organizational changes that optimizes overall mill performance. o Works with managers and supervisors to develop SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, timely) goals that properly align with stated mill goals and hold them accountable for the defined results o Build positive relations with employees and union leaders based on the WestRock values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability and Excellence o Play a key role in developing and executing the mill?s 5 year capital plan that includes a focus on infrastructure, structural integrity, updating obsolete equipment (specifically, electrical, drives and controls), cost reduction, environmental compliance, quality improvements and a long term strategic focus. What You need to succeed o Minimum of 10-15 years operational experience with paper industry experience preferred. o Bachelor?s degree in an engineering discipline is highly preferred o At least 5-7 years of leading salaried direct reports in a manufacturing environment o General understanding of mill-wide operations o Experience working in a union environment o Must be a strong leader with demonstrated communication skills and a high sense of urgency and attention to detail o Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with employees at all levels of the organization o Must be able to clearly define objectives and expectations and be effective in involving others in the achievement of those objectives o Ability to direct continuous improvement in all areas, but with special emphasis on safety, environmental, quality, reliability, and cost
Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
Operations ManagementEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
